How much does deck staining cost in Murfreesboro?
It depends on the size of the deck, its condition, and how much cleaning or stripping it needs before we stain. A small deck in good shape is quick. What is the difference between stain and sealer, and which do I need?
A sealer is clear or near-clear and mainly keeps water out. A stain adds color and UV protection along with the water resistance, which matters a lot under the Tennessee sun. Most decks do best with a stain that seals at the same time. We look at your wood and how much sun it gets, then recommend the right product and finish.
Do you clean and prep the deck first?
Always. Prep is what makes the finish last. Depending on the deck, that means washing or pressure washing off dirt and mildew, stripping failed old coatings, sanding rough spots, and letting the wood dry before anything goes on. Stain over a dirty or wet deck peels, so we do not skip it.
How long before I can walk on the deck again?
Usually you can walk on it within a day, and put furniture back after that, but it depends on the product and the weather. Humidity and cool temperatures slow drying. We give you clear timing before we leave so you know when it is ready for foot traffic and for furniture.
How often should a deck be re-stained in Tennessee?
Roughly every two to three years for the deck floor, which takes the most sun and foot traffic, and longer for railings and vertical surfaces. Sun exposure, the wood, and the last product used all move that number. A quick water test tells a lot: if water soaks in instead of beading up, it is time.
Do you stain fences, porches, and pergolas too?
Yes. Decks, fences, covered porches, railings, and pergolas all get the same treatment: clean, prep, stain, and seal. Doing the deck and the fence together often makes sense while we are already set up.
Can you fix a deck that was stained wrong or is peeling?
Yes, and it is a common call. Peeling usually means the old finish went on over a dirty or damp surface, or the wrong product was used. We strip it back to sound wood, prep it properly, and re-stain so the new finish actually bonds and holds.
