A newer house that came to us in the light gray every builder was using a few years ago. We repainted the whole interior in Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa, a warm white, and the rooms stopped feeling cold. Tap either photo to see it full size.

If your house went up in the last ten years or so, there is a decent chance it came painted in some version of this gray. Builders like it because it looks inoffensive in a listing photo and it hides scuffs during construction. Then you move in and live with it, and a lot of people find out the same thing we hear on estimates all the time. In real daylight, a cool gray makes a room feel a few degrees colder than it is.
This house was exactly that. Good light, oak floors, an arched opening into the dining nook. And every wall the same flat gray, fighting the warm wood instead of working with it.
There are no before shots in this set, so you will have to picture the gray. It is probably on a wall near you right now.
The whole interior is Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa, SW 7551. It is an off-white with some warmth in it, and Sherwin-Williams puts its light reflectance value at about 84. In plain terms, it bounces back most of the light that hits it, so the rooms read white and bright, but it is not the stark, slightly blue white that can make a house feel like a waiting room.
That warmth is the whole point here. Next to oak floors and an espresso coffee bar, the old gray looked like it was arguing with the wood. Greek Villa sits with it. The arch reads softer, and the dining nook looks like somebody designed it that way.

Next to the purple and green walls in that Antioch house, light gray to a warm white is a friendly change. It is still not a one-coat job, whatever the label on the can says.
Newer houses have their own prep list. Nail pops where the framing settled. Hairline cracks along the drywall seams, especially over doorways. Builder-grade flat paint that shows every spot you touch up. Those get fixed and spot primed first, or they show through the new color as dull patches the first sunny afternoon. Then two full coats, cut in by hand along the ceiling line and the trim.
Repainting a house that already looks fine is a hard sell on paper. Nothing is broken. But you spend every day inside those walls, and the wall color decides whether a room feels warm or cold more than any piece of furniture in it.
